What events are there where a person or people did something morally wrong for the greater good?

I am writing a paper to persuade that "the end justifies the mean", that doing something morally wrong to save the greater good good is ok, and I need proof to back up my thesis. Any events or scenarios that could fit in with this would really help. also links to any of the information would also be good.

It’s a grisly story, but ‘The Man Who Never Was’ sure meets your criteria.

The Allies knew when they landed on D-Day it would be a bloodbath, so they did everything they could to minimize losses and catch the Germans by surprise… making the Germans believe the landings would be at a different place instead of at Normandy was part of those plans. They had Patton in England in charge of an Army Group that really didn’t exist, were sending all sorts of radio traffic to decieve also.

A British plan – find a dead body, give the person a fake name and military ID, drop the dead body at sea close to the coast of France where they knew the tide would carry it into shore or fisherman would find it… fill his pockets with fake intelligence saying the landings were going to be at the Pas de Calais… and make it look like some intelligence courier had a plane crash and died at sea [when really he was already dead and tossed out of a British submarine on purpose]

As it turns out the Germans did find the body, they bought the fake deception plan, and even as the Allies were landing in Normandy Hitler thought this was a diversion raid so he didn’t send many reinforcements to the D-Days beaches waiting for the ‘real’ invasion instead.

The British called this deception plan ‘Operation Mincemeat’… true story. Later hollywood made it into a movie.

You can also go with the bombing of civilians.
Everyone thought the Germans were pretty low when they bomber Rotterdam, London, Coverntry… the bombing of civilians being morally wrong and great propoganda to use against those evil Germans.
Then the RAF due to heavy daylight bomber losses switched to night attacks… and you can imagine how difficult it is to bomb a German factory that you can’t even see. So they went with carpet bombing figuring even if some bombs miss – others are guaranteed to hit the factory. True you might kill some civilians, but whether you hit the factory, or kill the workers, or de-house them, or cause them to lose sleep… either way your effecting production in a negative way. The ends justifying the means.
RAF Bomber Command wasn’t really liked for this practice, even their allies the Americans had a distain for the practice thinking ‘we do precision daylight bombing’, we’re better than that… but fact is it worked, and fact is the USAF later did the exact same thing in Japan [eg Tokyo fire-bombings, dropping nukes on cities, etc] using that same "the ends justifying the means" reasoning.

I already have events such as the crowning of Elizabeth I, the relationship he had with his daughters, and the Black Death. Were there any other events during the 16th century that might have inspired Shakespeare to write some of his plays?

Not an event as such, but there is the Tudor propaganda. Shakespeare was writing during the reign of the last of the Tudors, a dynasty which came to power on a rather tenuous claim.

I would like to start a career in event planning. I am going back to school in The fall and not exactly sure what my major should be as it was psychology before. I was hoping for some helpful suggestions on getting on the right path! Thanks!

Here is how to begin a career in event planning.

1) Explore educational opportunities in event planning at an undergraduate level. Consider majors in business management or business administration. Complete coursework in sports management classes, advertising, hospitality law or anything related to managing events. Get certification as a Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) or Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) in order to be taken more seriously by potential employers or clients.

2) Apply for an internship at a local event-planning firm, or find one in another city for summer. Build confidence and gain practical experience in the field, as well potential business references and contacts to network with in the future by interning at an event planning firm.

3) Build a portfolio of experiences by volunteering to help plan events in your town or for friends and family.

4) Decide what kinds of events you would like to plan (social or corporate) and develop a resume that showcases your diverse experiences and knowledge about that field. Gain unconventional experience and knowledge by writing a wedding column or starting a wedding blog if you wish to have a career as a wedding planner. Create relationships with other notable people within hierarchy of that field such as wedding dress boutique owners, wedding cake bakers or wedding invitation designers.

5) Apply for entry-level positions at event-planning companies. Consider striking out on your own and starting your own event-planning company. Create a new pool of clientele by drawing from people you have networked with in the past or by offering free services to show what kinds of events and parties you are capable of producing.

One simple example is of the flying chariot in which Raavan took Sita; it can be related to airplanes.

How to create an event on new Ipod Touch calendar?

I just got the new I-pod Touch and want to create an event on the calendar app it comes with. I had the old 3rd gen I-pod and there was a + sign at the top, but there isn’t one on my new ipod. I know they have the new Reminders app but is there any way to create an event so it will show up on the calendar?

I want to be able to create an event on the calendar that group members can then go edit. For example, our elementary school is having a fall festival. We need volunteers to sign up for one hour time slots on the calendar. Can I block off the time slot and then let members go in and put their name on the time slot they want to volunteer? If not, what is the best way to organize this information and allow members to edit it?

Of any web feature, members can only create/ edit what they created, they cant edit someone else’s. Only the owner has that ability. I think but am not for sure that they can enter info on database though, and the poll feature might work for what you want. people can ‘vote’ on the time slot they want, and if you select * Display voter identity with each vote, everyone will see who ‘voted’ for what time.

The Yahoo calendar event contact numbers list is incorrect even though my Yahoo account contact numbers are correct. How can I delete the incorrect number from the calendar event contact list and add the right numbers?

Click on Calender….then select View Eventslist (by default it will be there). Then go to future events NOT in current month which you want to Edit (to change the contact number) for example if you want to correct this week then go to the same even which will come in January or February.

Correct the contact number and then on top under Apply Changes select ALL EVENTs and then save the changes…that’s all … You are Done.

Where can I buy MTGO Event Tickets or Cards and bill to my cell phone?

I don’t have a credit card and I don’t have a paypal account. I usually get SC with my cell phone.

I’m about 99% sure you can’t do that. If you really need to do something you can buy a prepaid debit or credit card and load money onto it and use that in the store.
