  • How to become an Event Planner?

Posted by admin on February 8th, 2010 and filed under event planner | 3 Comments »

I am trying to help my wife with her career. She is a communications major with emphasis on Event Planning. How do you get that career started? Must you take and internship first or can you be hired with no real experience? Other than just Wedding Coordinators what types of places have an Event Planner as a hired position, and where can we look for them?

Well there are several methods you can take but I have to agree that the best method to really employ yourself is by specializing in a single event type first, instance get to know the club scene, start talking to as many people who are booking and being booked; many bands do this for themselves and what your selling here is convenience and knowledge; once you get some familiarity you can very quickly start playing match maker. With her education and your support she should be quite successful.

are you willing to do a few events for references only?
this way both sides profit – you get happy referencing clients and they get your services for free. make sure your time is free, and not the materials you need to buy.
in today’s economy word-of-mouth will keep you in business or break you.

There aren’t as many openings in event planning as people think.

You wife could think about becoming a self-employed event planner. She stands a greater chance of earning money as an event planner if she works for herself.

Plus it’ll give her the experience to get a job in a bigger business later on.

There are courses, such as the one below, that tell you how to set up your own event planning business.
