I’ve just decided to become an event planner, but I’m not too familiar with this field.
What college classes are available in helping me to become an event planner?
What other activities (locally, in high high school, etc.) are available for me to learn some skills that I need.
If there are any event planners out there, please give me some advice.
Thank you for your time.
Event planning is usually done by overweight women who work out of their trailer park home.
Since they’re willing to do it for almost free (or in return for a dozen chicken legs), it’s difficult to compete with them and make a living.
Choose something else to do with your life. Event Planning is not a realistic career choice.

You should take hospitality courses, as well as business and marketing. If you can, you should meet up with a local event planner and shadow him or her to make sure this is what you want to do. Event planning is a very large field – it covers corporate meeting planners all the way to individual wedding planners. There are many professional organizations for the event planning field that also would give you insights – ISES, NACE, ABC.
Good luck!
