For example, my group calendar shows the event starting at 7:30 (EST), but on my personal calendar it shows 8:30. I checked and both calendars use the same time zone.

Sounds like to me that your own personal calendar may be off. But, and this is a big but, I don’t know what your personal calendar is. I’m not sure if you’re using an online calendar or your own desktop calendar…
I do think however that the Yahoo calendar would have to be reasonably accurate. After all, there’s a LOT of people out there using it. However I could be way wrong too.
This page I’ve found has some links to the Yahoo calendar and other calendars that you might be able to check with:

Another thing I just thought of. Check the exact time at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/full.html
That should confirm a few things.
