Does anyone know how much an event planner makes yearly?

Posted by admin on March 20th, 2010 and filed under event planner | 1 Comment »

I’m getting ready to take hospitality courses, etc. to be an event planner (for banquets, weddings, etc. at a hotel or resort). Does anyone know how much event planners make yearly? I’ve searched and searched and never gotten a clear answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pay varies greatly with location and experience. Monster.com has a salary calculator and I found the job title "Meetings and Special Events Planner". In my town (Silver Spring, MD), the average pay is $55,000.

To find salary data for any zip code, go to this page:
    http://salary.monster.com/salarywizard/layoutscripts/swzl_keywordsearch.asp
type in "Meetings and Special Events Planner" and enter your zip code.

What does an event planner do? What’s the scope of their work?

How much can an event planner with a degree expect to earn? Where do they usually find employment(excluding the option of being self-employed)? Are they in demand?

I need to know everything about being an event planner. Thanks and I’ll really appreciate it if anyone can help!!

Your best bet to get the widest range of information is to go to the major jobsearch websites like hotjobs or monster, and search keywords "event planner" – this will show you how many positions are open, who is hiring, and what the job entails.

Another very helpful resource is the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook. According to the section on meeting and convention planners http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos298.htm

Median annual earnings of meeting and convention planners in May 2004 were $39,620. The middle 50 percent earned between $31,180 and $50,790. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $24,660, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $65,060

I highly recommend you read the entire section for detailed information about the scope and nature of the work involved.

BizBash Media has hosted seminars and events to improve event preparedness for the meeting and event planning community. In this clip Assistant Sheriff Michael Hillmann of the Orange County Coroner’s office who has years of experience in the LA Police Department explains how mass gatherings are a high priority target for terrorists and give pointers for planners to be ready for anything.

MICHAEL HILLMANN WAS APPOINTED ASSISTANT SHERIFF OF THE ORANGE COUNTY-CORONER DEPARTMENT IN SEPTEMBER, 2008 AND SERVES AS ITS COMMANDING OFFICER OF FIELD OPERATIONS. ASSISANT SHERIFF HILLMANN HAS MORE THAN 41 YEARS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE WITH THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT. How much does a wedding or an event planner make?

Posted by admin on March 16th, 2010 and filed under event planner | 3 Comments »

I know there are people who are event planners & do big fancy events. How much would one charge?

My wedding planner charged 15% of the total amount spent on the event.

We spent 75,000. So … she made a nice chunk of change.

But it varies. Some charge a flat fee, some charge a %, it all depends on what your contract would state. The contract I signed was for her to help w/ everything. She had options of being there the day of the event only and she charged $2500 or $3000, I can’t remember – she also charged hourly for the couples that just needed help w/ vendors and contracts, etc. She charged $80 or $90 hourly.

But what you can charge is also based upon how good your are, your reputation, etc. She has been featured in magazines, on television – so she was able to charge that much.

Edit – yes my father paid a lot, but it was perfect and nothing went wrong. And if it did – I didn’t know about it, which makes her even better than I thought :)

where can i go to college to become an event planner?

i graduate next year. & i want to become an event planner. but since there’s no major for that there’s no point of me going to a 4 year college. but is there something i can major in that will better myself in becoming an event planner.
    FYI: i have a 3.8 gpa.

just tell me some majors and great colleges.

There is no degree needed to become an event planner. Most event planners just work their way up in the business, working for other event planners.

How do i go about moving to America to work as an Event Planner?

Posted by admin on March 12th, 2010 and filed under event planner | 2 Comments »

I am in my last year at high school in the UK, and my dream job would be to be an Event Planner in the USA, preferably in Los Angeles or NYC, but how do i go about doing this?

What courses would i need to take at college in the UK? Also how would i go about moving over there and how would i get a job? Can UK students move over there and get internships?

Any information would be greatly appreciated thanks:-).

I don’t want to burst your bubble but America right now is in a recession and Event Planners are not the most sought after employees regardless of your education. Why not major in medicine and then transfer your skills and interests once gainfully employed in the US and making good money. Event Planners do not require as much education as they do familiarity with matching clients to products and services to take the stress off the clients. It’s unlikely there are internships for planners as there would be in nursing and other medical specialties. Follow your heart in what you do but use your head. If you are thinking of moving to LA or NY, please understand the costs of living … there are enough homeless people there already.

Do you think that you can make Event Planner as your lifetime career?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under event planner | 3 Comments »

Will customers engage an old aged man/woman as a Event Planner? Will it not become disadvantage when you got older?

Event Planning is already a well established vocation. As with all other careers where you are selling your services, you have to find a target market. I’m sure a young crowd would not hire you to plan their HipHop tribute fundraiser, but look for markets in areas that you are familiar in. As long as youre a good talker and can get things done… age shouldnt matter. After a few projects your work will show for itself, the important thing is to get started…
