I have always been very interested in event planning but never knew how to go about getting into a career like that. Should I take classes?…. if so where? Should I start out by being an event planners assistant? How do you get jobs w/ no experience? Anymore info please let me know. Thanks A Bunch! Tampa, FL
My daughter wants to be an event planner and maybe start her own business one day, so she’s getting her degree in hospitality management and will first be going to work at a resort to get hands-on experience.
A friend of mine is an event planner with no degree but years of experience. She has little chance of a promotion where she works, but she’s fine with that because she loves what she does.
You can get a degree, or put years into proving yourself + lower pay. It all depends on your personal goals. Good luck!

It can be quite involved, especially when dealing with different countries that have different time zones, different summertime rules, different holidays, leap years, etc – you get the point! I’d recommend this one:
http://www.softcomplex.com/products/php_event_calendar/
It’s fully configurable, has excellent customer support and customer forums, is free for non-commercial use or developing, and is only $30 to use for a site.
Hope that helps

If insured for amount purchased on ebay with that value be honored by UPS, USPS, Fedex, DHL , etc?
I worked for FedEx and here is how they work. Yes, in a sense you can declare a value for more than the price of the tickets. The more you declare, the more you pay obviously. However, if by chance your tickets are lost, destroyed, etc and you file a claim, FedEx will ask you to prove the value of the tickets. So basically you’d have to show your eBay receipt and they would only reimburse you for the actually amount rather than the declared value amount thats more than face value. So your better off declaring the actual amount and saving some money. And talking with other couriers, they have pretty much the same type of policy.
When I go to CalendarOptions and then Sharing, there is an option to let others VIEW my calendar, and viewing options, and a way to view someone else’s calendar. But there does not seem to be any way to make Yahoo Calendar FETCH events from my Yahoo Groups. Can anyone suggest a way?
When I try by going through Groups, there is the same problem. The Groups moderators CAN put events on the personal calendar of each Group member individually, but they don’t, since they have so many members.
So I wind up having to check each Group page for time/location changes, an then I have to cut and paste into my Calendar, and then I have to keep checking back for changes to the time/location. Printing out MyCalendar before the meeting might print stale information.
Can this process be automated? Is there a way to make MyYahooCalendar check MyYahooGroups for updated meeting times/places and show them in MyYahooCalendar?
There is a way
go to your calendar
go to options
go to time guides
check the boxes of the groups you wish to "sync" with.
save
done.
ignore the guy above me.
I would like to learn the ropes of special event planning but I want to get paid. what are some entry level jobs that would be good for a career in event planning?
I would recommend working at a party supply store, hotel (many hotels rent banquet rooms for meeting, parties, etc.), if you have a convention center nearby or a place where they host events such as boat shows or rv shows, etc.. Or look in your local directory to see if there is an event planner or wedding planner in your area, Maybe they need help with upcoming weddings (June is a popular month for weddings). Other than that, any job where you work with the public will give you customer service experience.
Another good source for unpaid (but valuable) experience is to volunteer with your local organizations. Your local chamber of commerce will be hosting many events in the upcoming months. As will the Rotary, Kiwanis, schools, churches. Now is the time for local homecoming celebrations, Forth of July, church picnics. All of these community events are great event planning experiences. Do a little digging to see who is sponsoring them and volunteer to help the organizer.
Good luck.
I am getting to that point where I need to start choosing a career. I will be a high school junior in september and have been thinking about a career in event planning (specifically weddings) Would it be wiser to get a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management or Business Management. If you have any advice on how I should go about entering this career field please tell me, as this is quite overwhelming for me.
Hi, I’m a photographer and have done a few weddings and I once considered being an event planner. How about calling some of the places that hold weddings & events and talking to some event planners. I applied once to a resort that hired wedding planners, and they were willing to teach everything.
Also not sure if this advice is welcomed but I like to share anyway… Keep a good record of vendors of different price ranges and quality early on and in different neighbor hoods, that way when people do start asking you, you have something to tell them. And try to develop a relationship with vendors so that you get referrals. You could do all this on your own, but I do recommend business classes, because when I first started I was clueless.
im a freshman in college and trying to decide on a major. im really interested in/good at event coordinating, advertising, organizing, etc. i have TONS of experience with things like that including organizing/planning philanthropy events, "parents night out" babysitting events, vacation bible schools, etc. i reallly reallllly enjoy that type of thing. but what careers are out there that would fit me? a wedding planner? and whats the practicality of getting a job like that? \
also, what degree would most appropriately fit that job?
If you own a degree – or any alternative qualification – then you’ll already be in front of of the bunch when it comes to searching for careers. My pal has a degree and he wasn’t certain what direction to go with it, but he found some great guidance on the resource in the resource box below which aided him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is plenty of help on the resource regarding alternative careers.
Got the magazine for the olmpyic time table-but it doesn’t actually have the time of the actually equestian events.
It just says-Plus equestrian, and numerous other events
The DRESSAGE, WAS on TV a few mintues ago-i’ve seen it twice today.
